The Teamsters Airline Division
represents over 40,000 workers in the aviation industry in every craft and
class. We have the strongest collective bargaining agreements in the country.
Our goal is to provide our membership with the best representation in the
industry and to give all workers in the aviation industry a voice at their job.
Teamsters have represented
aviation workers since the 1950s and are continuing to grow to help airline
workers.

AIRLINE DIVISION ADVISORY BOARD MEETS FOR FIRST TIME

Division announced that a newly formed advisory board of directors will help
set the future course and structure for the Teamsters Airline Division. More>>
MEET LEGAL COUNSEL ED GLEASON
Ed Gleason is now Counsel to
the Teamsters Airline Division. He has 19 years' experience representing
labor organizations in the transportation industries. Ed joined the
Teamsters Legal Department in early 2007. Since May, he has worked closely
with Airline Division Director David Bourne on such issues as transitioning
United Airlines mechanics and dealing with grievances and negotiations.

UPDATE
ON AVIATION ON CAPITOL HILL
Congress is unlikely to
re-authorize spending for the Federal Aviation Administration this year,
according to Ken Montoya, legislative representative for the Teamsters
Government Affairs Division. Montoya, who joined the Teamsters in May, has
been a close observer of aviation issues on Capitol Hill for more than 20
years.

ENERGY CRISIS
Soaring Fuel Costs
The Teamsters are pressuring Congress to act quickly to bring down the cost of oil. As the August recess approached, key members of Congress met with Airline Division Director David Bourne and the Government Affairs Division. They heard how soaring oil costs are hurting workers, and why curbing speculation will lower fuel prices.

Kalitta Crew Members
All Home
Local 747 reports that the eight Kalitta crew members downed near Bogota,
Colombia are all home. They suffered injuries that range from serious to minor.
All are being treated by their own doctors.
UAL MECHANICS VOTE TO AMEND
CONTRACT TO ACCEPT PAY INCREASE
United Airlines mechanics represented
by the Teamsters voted 2,104 to 382 in favor of amending the Collective
Bargaining Agreement to receive a 1-percent wage increase for all bargaining
unit employees.

TEAMSTERS AVIATION MECHANICS COALITION
The Teamsters represent 18,000
aviation mechanics and related workers. To better serve their interests we have
formed the Teamsters Aviation Mechanics Coalition. The coalition is led by a
steering committee of mechanics from the 14 Teamster
carriers. The coalition
has played a leading role in exposing and fighting unsafe outsourcing practices, organizing mechanics and related into the Teamsters, lobbying on issues of
importance and more.
VICTORY AT UNITED AIRLINES
Congratulations and welcome to
our new Teamster brothers and sisters at UAL. On May 31, 2008, more than
9,000 aviation mechanics at UAL voted to join the Teamsters Union. UAL’s
mechanics worked hard for two years to become Teamsters and overcame huge
obstacles. Their efforts paid off with a remarkable 78 percent voter turnout that
sent a strong message to the company that the UAL mechanics want change.
